2014 Red River Showdown Median Ticket Prices

For the first time in since 2007, the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners both enter the Red River Showdown following a loss. Texas currently sits 2-3 on the season, but a win over the Sooners could help the Longhorns salvage Charlie Strong’s first season in Austin. The Sooners come into the game after a surprise loss at TCU and will look rebuild their playoff aspirations with a rout of the Longhorns.

The demand for the Texas-OU game has remained high, but has dropped significantly over the last three seasons. The median ticket price for tickets to the 2014 Red River Showdown is $163 as of 10/10/14.  The 2013 Red River Showdown (Rivalry) had a median ticket price of $177, while the 2012 game had a median ticket price of $250. That represents an almost $100 drop in ticket prices in a three year period, making the 2014 Red River Showdown the most affordable for fans in years.

While the price of tickets may have dropped, the intrigue surrounding the event remains as high. Here are some things to look for at this years Red River Showdown:

The running game of Oklahoma has been the story of the season for the Sooners. Freshmen running back Samaje Perine from Pflugerville, Texas has exploded onto the scene for the Sooners. In his first 5 games as the Oklahoma Sooners running back he already has two Big 12 conference games with 3+ touchdowns and has eclipsed 500 rushing yards. Backup running back Keith Ford has 5 touchdowns himself and the duo should see plenty of carries against a porous Texas Longhorns run defense. Last week the Longhorns gave up almost 300 yards rushing at home and have given up more than 200 yards rushing in 3 of the first 5 games this season. Look for the Sooners to turn to the ground game early and often tomorrow.

Keys for Texas:OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAFor most of the season Texas has avoided making too many turnovers on the offensive side of the ball. But last week against Baylor the Horns had 3 turnovers, including Tyrone Swoopes first 2 interception game of his Texas career. If Texas wants to have any chance of winning the Red River Showdown, they will have to do a much better job of holding onto the ball. The Longhorns moved the ball well, but their inability to finish drives cost them the game. Swoopes will be making his 4th start of his career and his first in the Texas-OU rivalry. How he handles the pressure and the football will be key for the Longhorns chances tomorrow.

3 New food items to try while at the fair:

The college football atmosphere at the State Fair of Texas is as good as anywhere in the country, party because of the fried food. There are a few new must try’s at this years’ fair that are perfect for pre-game or post-game feasts.

1. Fried Maple Bacon Amazeballz
If you didn’t think that bacon could get any better, you were wrong. This fried beauty is a chocolate cake ball with chocolate frosting, maple syrup and bacon pieces. A little powdered sugar is sprinkled on top for added measure.

2. Fried Sriracha Balls:
While the name of these is slightly deceiving, they remain one of the top draws of this year’s Texas State Fair menu. They are shreded chicken, corn, green chilies, tomatoes and Sriracha sauce rolled and fried.

3. Fry Dog:
Corndogs have been staples of the State Fair experience for decades. But this might be a worthy successor to the traditional dog. The fry dog is a batter dipped hot dog surrounded by French fries that is fried and served on a stick.
